Data Architecture
Data Architecture is the backbone of any data warehouse or database system and is essential to realizing the target state of your warehouse. The architecture of a warehouse defines the organization of the system and, when done correctly, drives efficiencies in loading, mining and archiving the data in your warehouse.

Data Warehousing
The Unison team has experience building data warehouses across the spectrum from simple to complex, and for data volumes from small to large. Our team has delivered robust solutions using SQL Server, Oracle, and Teradata platforms. We specialize in understanding your requirements, learning about the number and size of your data sources, and ensuring the solution we recommend and build will optimize your visibility into your data. By modeling your warehouse for optimization, we can efficiently extract, transform and load your data, reducing load times, increasing data refresh rates, and optimizing ad hoc queries. Our data profilers are experts at source-to-target mapping and ensuring that all data being loaded is accurate, complete and consistent. The end result delivers data that is standardized, robust and auditable, providing your company with the information, reports and dashboards your business relies upon.

Systems Integration
Unison Systems provides experienced Systems Integrators who begin our comprehensive SI practice by analyzing your entire IT ecosystem. Our systems integration methodology of linking together different, and often disparate, computing systems and software applications ensures the interoperability of aggregated subsystems so that the end state architecture is able to deliver the expected over-arching functionality.

Our systems integration approach provides three main styles of integration:

Vertical Integration is the process of integrating subsystems according to their functionality by creating functional entities also referred to as silos. The benefit of this method is that the integration is performed quickly and involves only the necessary subsystem so this method is cheaper in the short term. On the other hand, cost-of-ownership can be substantially higher than seen in other methods, because in cases requiring new or enhanced functionality, the only possible way to implement (scale the system) would be by implementing another silo.

Star Integration is a process of integration of the systems where each system is interconnected to each of the remaining subsystems. When observed from the perspective of the subsystem which is being integrated, the connections resemble a star. The cost varies depending on the interfaces which subsystems are exporting. In a case where the subsystems are exporting heterogeneous or proprietary interfaces, the integration cost can substantially rise. Time and costs needed to integrate the systems increase exponentially when adding additional subsystems. From the feature perspective, this method often seems preferable, due to the extreme flexibility of the reuse of functionality.

Horizontal Integration or Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is an integration method in which a specialized subsystem is dedicated to communication between other subsystems. This allows cutting the number of connections (interfaces) to only one per subsystem which will connect directly to the ESB. The ESB is capable of translating the interface into another interface. This allows cutting the costs of integration and provides extreme flexibility. With systems integrated using this method, it is possible to completely replace one subsystem with another subsystem that provides similar functionality but exports different interfaces, while remaining completely transparent for the rest of the subsystems. The only action required is to implement the new interface between the ESB and the new subsystem.

Billing System Upgrades and Enhancements
Over the course of their careers in the telecommunications industry, the Unison team managed the data and IS teams involved in numerous billing system upgrades and migrations. Unison's executives led the migration from CSG's ASCR billing platform to its enhanced ACP platform and converted hundreds of stored procedures, ETL scripts, warehouse tables, queries, recurring reports and websites to conform to the new ACP Vantage tables. Additionally, the Unison team also migrated subscribers and all corresponding data protocols, reports, warehouse infrastructure etc. between and among the CSG, ICOMS and Amdocs billing systems during billing system conversions. We understand the criticality of maintaining all day-to-day operations during these upgrades and conversions and we can marry our expertise with the strenghts of your internal teams.

Program Management

The success of your data management initiative is dependent upon a strong program manager, sometimes referred to as the development manager. The program manager is responsible for keeping the initiative on track with the vision while also providing guidance to the development leads and overall leadership to all the development team members. Working hand-in-hand with the project manager, who ensures the tasks and timelines of the initiative are met, the program manager coordinates with the business teams to refine focus, communicate strategy, and to assess and respond to any development impacts/risks. At Unison Systems, we have program managers with years of proven experience who can expertly guide your development teams to successful project completion.
